Balanchine was a repeat winner in Charlottetown Driving Park's $2,300 Preferred 2 Pace and a decisive one at that, scoring by five lengths as part of a training triple on the Saturday card for Jackie Matheson.
Brodie MacPhee sent the nine-year-old Blissfull Hall gelding to the lead after the the :28-second opening panel and cruised through fractions of :57.1 and 1:27 en route to a wide-open 1:55.4 victory. The win was his 49th lifetime.
Balanchine is owned by Mike Pollard of Stratford, P.E.I. and Joey Gallant of Charlottetown.
Inspired Art and Corey MacPherson finished second while I D K came in third with Vincent Poulton in the bike.
Matheson and MacPhee teamed up earlier on the card to win with J V S Ring. Ron Matheson also guided Van Zant to victory lane for the conditioner.
MacPhee also scored victories with Something Blue for trainer Kevin MacLean and Machinthesand for Mark Bradley.
Ovation Killean pulled off a 12-1 upset in the $2,200 Fillies & Mares Open Pace with a 1:58.1 front-stepping score for trainer/driver Vaughan Doyle and local owner Darla Jay. The five-year-old Mach Three mare held off J K Special and Walter Cheverie by half a length while Private Joke and Gary Chappell finished one length back in third.
