Winning races was like taking candy from a baby on Monday at Rideau Carleton Raceway for driver John MacDonald, who was spotted in the winner’s circle on six occasions
during a 15-race program that included another leg of the Fiesty Fillies Pacing Series.
MacDonald was kept out of the win column for the first three races before clicking with Western Eyeful, who produced a 1:59.3 score in the fourth race. He had a quite stretch from Race 5 to Race 8, but things really opened up from that point on.
He took the second division of the Fiesty Fillies Pacing Series with St Lads Trixie in the ninth race. The rookie daughter of Artesian-Tricky Fame front-stepped her way to a 1:57.2 score for the duo of trainer Sebastien Giroux and owner Robert Seguin of Gatineau, QC.
Evidently, the other division of the series held earlier on the card was won in an identical manner by Zoes Turn and trainer/driver Marcel Barrieau. She laid down all the speed en route to posting a 1:59.1 win for her owner – the Hudson Standrdbrd Stb. Inc. of Hudson, QC.
Getting back to MacDonald, with two wins under his belt going into the tenth race he exploded for a natural hat trick starting with Borntobearockstar (2:00.2). He followed it up with an eleventh race triumph with L M Filou (2:01.4), and struck again in the very next dash with a rookie filly from his own barn - Lickity Hanover (2:00.2). He capped off the card by taking Race 15 with Wynys Ninny (2:02).
The six-win performance for the resident of Russell, ON pushed his 2009 win total to 212, while his lifetime number jumped to 1,470. The career winner of $7.3 million is a few thousand dollars shy of hitting the $1 million mark in purse earnings for the fourth consecutive season.
