Juveniles And Open-Length Victors At Mohawk Qualifiers

The Monday morning qualifying session at Mohawk Racetrack was comprised of nine dashes over the Campbellville, Ont. oval, with the first five of those races featuring aspiring two-year-old talent

Trained by Rebecca Titus, Striking Style, a juvenile Striking Sahbra filly, recorded a five-length victory in Race 1. Driver Luc Ouellette sent the chestnut to the lead before the half and went on to stop the clock in 2:02.

Bay Artsplace filly Dance Until Dawn came from off the tempo in Race 2 to post a quarter-length victory in 1:57.2 for driver Gabriel Boily and trainer Tony O'Sullivan.

The duo of driver Luc Ouellette and trainer Fred Jamieson clicked in Race 3 with two-year-old Striking Sahbra gelding Protégé Seelster. The bay, which was one and a quarter lengths the best in the tilt, recorded the win in 2:00.4.

Guru trotting driver Trevor Ritchie was up behind two-year-old Working Girl in Race 4 for conditioner Jimmy Takter. The bay Ken Warkentin filly left from the rail and made every pole a winning one. The filly tripped the final timer in 2:01.2.

Trainer/driver Dustin Jones recorded a victory in Race 5 with his two-year-old Artiscape colt Dusty Drive Thru. The duo went wire to wire in the dash, opening up lengths in the final quarter-mile. The win time was 1:59.3.

Three-year-old Amigo Hall colt Breewood Gingro was triumphant in Race 6 for trainer/driver Stephen Loughran. After sitting second throughout the mile, the bay went on to stop the clock in 1:59 with a one and a quarter-length winning margin.

Driver Rick Zeron and trainer Wayne Preszcator hooked up with three-year-old Duke Of York filly Jewelcrest in Race 7. The filly went on to show the field her heels after leaving from Post 1. Jewelcrest threw up a 15-length victory in 2:02.3.

Six-year-old Pearl River Matt gelding March Mattness followed suit in Race 8, as the Tony Montini-trained and Jonathan Drury-driven bay recorded a 21-length win in a sharp 1:52.1.

In the same vein as the previous two winners, seven-year-old Garland Lobell gelding Armbro Continental wrapped up the Monday morning session with a grand margin of victory. Pilot Steve Condren guided the student of trainer Steve Bossence to a 16-length victory in 1:56.4.
