Mohawk Racetrack rolls out the red carpet for the two-year-old trotting fillies on Monday, July 29 as the precocious youngsters compete in their third Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots contest.
Five divisions of fillies will go postward on the Monday evening program, and Ontario Sires Stakes fans will be paying close attention to Race 9 as division point leader Chelseas Chance squares off against two fillies hot on her heels in the point standings.
Milton resident Steve Condren will steer the undefeated Chelseas Chance from Post 8 for trainer Bob McIntosh of Windsor and his partner C S X Stables of Liberty Center, OH. The Kadabra daughter, who was also bred by McIntosh and C S X Stables, captured her division of the season opener at Kawartha Downs on July 6 with a 1:59.2 effort and lowered her mark to 1:58.4 in the July 13 contest at Georgian Downs.
Among the fillies hoping to halt Chelseas Chance’s winning streak at two are Erin Hall at Post 5 and Diamonds For Life at Post 10.
Erin Hall heads into the ninth race off a pair of wins, the first coming in the July 13 Grassroots event at Georgian Downs and the second in a two-year-old test at Kawartha Downs on July 25. The Deweycheatumnhowe miss is trained by Rockwood resident Carl Jamieson for his young partners Hailey Jamieson and Mackenzie O’Sullivan of Cambridge.
Diamonds For Life finished second to Chelseas Chance in the season opener and then posted her own 1:59.2 victory in the July 13 event. Mark Steacy conditions the Angus Hall daughter for Frank Spagnolo and Frank Schimizzi of Ottawa.
Mohawk Racetrack’s first race rolls in behind the starting gate at 7:25 p.m. and the two-year-old trotting fillies will compete in Races 1, 2, 3, 6 and 9.
