Rookies did battle at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Monday, as the five-eighths mile oval hosted round three of the Boys Of Summer Pacing Series, the Frisky Fillies Pacing Series and the Majestic Son Trotting Series

The Boys Of Summer Pacing Series
Safe Harbor was perfect in the first two legs of the series, and it was more of the same in Monday’s third leg. The son of Village Jolt-Light Up supplied the field with fractions of :29.1, :59.3 and 1:28.4 before kicking home in :28.1 to win in a career-best clocking of 1:57 for trainer/driver Marcel Barrieau. Winning Dream was second and Inferno Seelster finished third.
Barrieau co-owns the colt, who was a $25,000 Harrisburg Yearling Sale purchase, with Conrad Leber of Montreal and Gestion Mastel Inc of Longueuil, QC.
Picasso A F went gate-to-wire in the other division for driver Mario Lachance and trainer Robert Charron. The son of P Forty Seven-Almahurst Tiffany led his rivals through splits of :30, 1:00.3 and 1:30 before turning on the jets and kicking home in :29.1 to stop the clock in 1:59.1. Ideal Shark was second best and Leaveitwithme finished third.
Andre Fontaine of St-Hugues, QC bred and owns the colt who is now 1-for-4 to start his career.
The Frisky Fillies Pacing Series
Artistic M N M is now 4-for-4 to start her career thanks to a 1:56.1 triumph for trainer/driver Jason Gilchrist. The daughter of Real Artist-Matt N Mouse took over command shortly after the quarter pole and laid down middle splits of :57.3 and 1:27.3 before kicking home in :28.3 en route to scoring by 1-3/4 lengths over Shark Party. Casimir Kay O K rounded out the top three.
Sent off as the 2-5 choice, Artistic M N M has already banked $13,200 for Gilchrist and partner Ron Berry of Nepean, ON
The Majestic Son Trotting Series
Davignon finished second in the first two legs of the series, but he took home all the marbles in his third leg assignment for driver Yves Filion and trainer Luc Blais. The son of Monte Hall-Davallia saved ground in the early stages of the mile before engaging and overtaking the leaders in the closing strides en route to a 2:02.2 score. Musclemad was second and Rocket Dream took home the show dough.
Alain Vallieres of Saint-Vallier and Berto Stable of Montreal-Nord, QC bred and own the colt.
Ornela Dream got away last but circled past all of her rivals to take the other division in 2:02.3 for trainer/driver Normand Bardier, Jr. The daughter of Taurus Dream-Ornellaia prevailed by one-quarter of a length over Onthemoneyside. Third prize went to Super Lustre.
It was a maiden-breaking win for Ornela Dream, a homebred owned by Reve Avec Moi Dreamwithme of Knowlton, QC.
