A powerful middle move propelled veteran Nova Scotia campaigner Intended Royalty ($3.10) to victory in Sunday's (July 25) Johnny and Margaret Allen Ian Memorial at Inverness Raceway.
The afternoon's $2,250 pacing feature saw Likely To Win protect the pole to assume the early lead while Intended Royalty, handicapped with the outside post in the five-horse field, landed in fourth behind a :28.1 first quarter. With five-eighths to go, Redmond Doucet angled Intended Royalty off the pegs, and the 10-year-old No Pan Intended gelding duelled down Likely To Win to claim the lead with three-eighths to go before evading runner-up Dan Dar Mal by 1-3/4 lengths to win in 1:57.1. Twisted Frisco finished third.
Trainer Randy Copley co-owns 52-time winner Intended Royalty, who has now won in his last three Inverness appearances, with Edward Copley.
