Caretaker Selfie Winner Announced

Congratulations to Amber Guse of London, Ont., for winning Standardbred Canada’s National Caretaker Appreciation Day (NCAD) Selfie Contest.

Guse took this great shot of herself and two-year-old trotter, Speedy Duncan, at Steve Bossence Stables in Dorchester, Ont., where she currently works. She keeps herself busy also working as a caretaker at a thoroughbred breeding farm with six yearlings.

Amber has worked as a caretaker for over 20 years, committing herself to the horses day in and day out for practically her entire life. “I don’t have one specific reason why I love being a caretaker but having that bond with the horse is my favourite! There is nothing more rewarding then them feeling safe with you and loving you back! The pure enjoyment of watching them race each week and knowing all the hard work you've put in, there is no greater feeling then meeting them back in the winner's circle! I know I couldn't imagine my life without them in it!”

Amber has won a $150 gift card to Woodbine Mohawk Park, and an official NCAD t-shirt and hat!

Thank you to everyone who entered their selfie photos in the contest using the #thehorsecomesfirst #caretakerday18 event hashtags.
