Desperatehousewife was a repeat offender in the Saturday night feature at Georgian Downs, the $15,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Trot
.
Despite winning last week’s trot in convincing fashion, Desperatehousewife received little respect from the betting public. Sent postward as an 8-1 long shot, the seven-year-old Jonathan Lobell mare and driver Todd Ratchford crossed over from Post 7 and established the lead ahead of Countess Stormont (Jonathan Drury) after a :28-second first quarter. Desperatehousewife took the field to the half in :58.1 and then briefly surrendered the lead to the favoured Gostreet (Lyle MacArthur) at the three-quarters mark in 1:27. Using a :28.4 final frame, Desperatehousewife fought back to win in 1:55.4.
Countess Stormont finished a length and a half behind while Gostreet settled for third.
Jean MacDonell trains and co-owns the winner with Wayne Corini of Rockville, Maryland and Scott Jaconetty of San Jose, California. Desperatehousewife’s fifth win in 14 starts this year lifted her earnings to $49,525. With 39 wins under her belt, the bay now boasts $290,984 in lifetime winnings.
