On the heels of the divisional track records that have been broken at Eldorado Scioto Downs this season, the #SendItIn weekend could produce yet another. Both the #SendItIn (for male pacers) and Cleopatra (for filly pacers) Invitationals will be held at Scioto on Saturday, July 29.
Little Rocket Man was the most recent to break a track record at the South Columbus oval on Saturday, July 22. Driver Jeremy Smith never popped the plugs and the duo cruised to a 2-3/4-length victory in 1:47.3. Ken Rucker trains the seven-year-old gelding for Russell Beeman and Jack Freeman of Indiana. Just one week prior, Little Rocket Man had paced the fastest mile of the meet, going in 1:48.3, and the son of Rockin Image has been invited to the #SendItIn.
Other divisional track records seen so far this season include:
- The Mighty Hill, a four-year-old gelding trotter (Dan Noble/Jeff Smith) – 1:51.4
- Magestic Seas, a two-year-old filly pacer (Ronnie Wrenn, Jr./Brian Brown) – 1:51.1
- Mcseaside, a three-year-old pacing filly (Chris Page/Ron Burke) – 1:49.4
“The track has been in great shape this year,” said Jason Roth, Scioto’s Director of Racing. “Dan Coon evaluates the track each spring and helps us prep it before the start of the season. The quality of our horse population has produced a lot of fast miles, across all divisions.”
Supporting the Invitationals on the Saturday card are the Ohio Sires Stakes for two-year-old pacing colts, the Horses & Geldings Open, Fillies & Mares Open, the Open Trot and a Three- & Four-Year-Old Open Pace – any of which could produce another track record. The box for Saturday’s card closes on Tuesday, July 25 at 11 a.m.
“We’re looking forward to a great weekend of racing for our fourth annual Send It In Invitational,” continued Roth. “The undercard should be extremely strong with the Sires Stakes and all the Opens.”
The inaugural winners of the #SendItIn in 2020, when it was held in divisions, were Brassy Hanover and Workin Ona Mystery, the latter of which also won in 2021. Tattoo Artist took the 2022 edition.
Racing is held at Scioto Downs each Tuesday and Wednesday with a 3:15 p.m. first post, and Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays with a 5:50 p.m. first post through Saturday, Sept. 16.
