Prospect Series winners Dreamfair Sunshine and Docsphillycheese shared the spotlight at Dresden Raceway on Sunday afternoon (July 24), taking a pair of $7,000 divisions for three-year-old pacing colts and geldings.
Dreamfair Sunshine dominated his rivals in the first division, blasting off the outer wing and leading his four foes all the way to a 4-3/4-length victory in 1:57.2 over the off track with Dan Clements in the bike. He paid $6.10 to win as the 9-5 second choice. Shanghai Ky (Lorne House) and 3-5 favourite HP Momentum (Jonathan Hahn) rallied wide from the backfield to finish second and third, respectively.
Jason Libby trains the John Lamers homebred, who made his Dresden debut and winning one and picked up his first victory of the year since a three-race winter win streak. The gelded son of Sunshine Beach now has six career wins from 24 starts and nearly $37,000 in purse earnings.
Docsphillycheese delivered as the 1-2 favourite in the second division with a three-length score in 1:57.4 for driver Garett Rooney as he passed pocket-sitter Almost There Boss (Jonathan Hahn), who ended up second, and pacesetter Night Out (Nick Steward) in the stretch. The winner paid $2.50.
Brit Kennedy trains and co-owns the Betterthancheddar gelding, who has won back-to-back races at Dresden and is riding a three-race win streak, with Moneyclip Racing of Morpeth, Ont. After going winless in four rookie starts, Docsphillycheese has won five of 11 this year to boost his earnings to nearly $24,000.
Dresden wraps up its summer meet next week with a special Civic Holiday Monday card of racing featuring Ontario Sires Stakes two-year-old trotting fillies.
Sunday's handle was $47,941.
