To shamelessly plagiarize a term from our thoroughbred brethren, “Win and You’re In.” Yonkers Raceway has announced that the winner of the 62nd Yonkers Trot shall automatically receive a Yonkers International Trot invitation.
The Yonkers Trot goes Saturday night, September 3, while the Yonkers International Trot is set for Saturday afternoon, October 15.
“These are two of the premier trotting events in the sport, and we felt the three-year-old who wins our Yonkers Trot deserves a chance to be on the gate with the world’s best,” said Raceway COO Bob Galterio.
“We are compiling a list of some outstanding horses for our Yonkers International Trot,” said race secretary Steve Starr. “Unfortunately, last season’s winner, Papagayo E, is injured and won’t be able to defend his title, but there’s going to be a very strong field nonetheless.”
More information about the 2016 Yonkers International Trot shall be announced shortly.
