Foiled again and driver Matt Kakaley used the rail to perfect advantage and scored a popular 1:52 victory in the $100,000 Battle of Lake Erie on Saturday night

for Burke Racing, Weaver Bruscemi and JJK Stables.

Fire On The Water scrimmaged with the eventual winner, who led by a nose at the first pole, reached in :27. Foiled Again then cut middle splits of :55.1 and 1:23.2.

At the top of the lane, Hypnotic Blue Chip, last year’s Battle of Lake Erie victor, stalked the winner but weakened a bit, which permitted Giddy Up Lucky to come on and mount a last-minute challenge.

That challenge, however, fell a neck short and Giddy Up Lucky finished three-quarter lengths ahead of Hypnotic Blue Chip in what was the battle for place and show.

For Foiled Again, who won the “Battle” in 2009, the win was his eighth in 15 season’s starts and pushed his career earnings to $2,561,769.
