In the fourth installment of the top 10 Industry Day moments, Kelly Spencer reflects on the first time that the event was held at its new home in Elora, ON in 2004
.
Grand River Raceway's signature event, Industry Day, turns 20 this year and to commemorate this anniversary, the Elora track has prepared a video series highlighting the top 10 moments in the event's colourful history. One video will be released each day leading up to Industry Day on Monday, August 2.
“When the organization moved from Elmira Raceway to Grand River Raceway in 2004 it was really nice to have an event like Industry Day to bring to our new home,” said Spencer of the top 7 moment.
“That year we moved the Battle of Waterloo purse from $200,000 to $300,000, which was a big jump but we felt it was important given that the race had some longevity and it was time for a little bit of a refresher. Jumping from $200,000 to $300,000 certainly got a lot of attention and really made it a premier race in Ontario and across the country, for that matter.”
