With great sorrow, Oka Valley Standardbreds today announced that it has had to humanely euthanize one of its foundation mares

.

Twenty-eight-year-old Nero mare De Buena Lobell, which had been with Oka Valley since 1996, had to be put down.

"'De Buena' has been with us (Oka Valley) since 1996 where we purchased her in foal to Direct Scooter," said Standardbred Canada director Carmen Perzow of OKA Valley Standardbreds.

"I'd like to think that she had a good life with us. This year was difficult for her to keep weight on and arthritis kicked in. For those who love their mares as much as we do, I say to them tell your stories, for the broodmare is the beginning and the foundation of our industry."

Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the connections of De Buena Lobell.
