A trailing tier start actually worked out to Hot Fudge Sundae's advantage in the Preferred 3 Trot on Sunday afternoon (July 23) at Dresden Raceway.
Starting behind the eight ball in the $5,000 feature, Hot Fudge Sundae protected his position behind inside leaver Panzano (Andy Moore) as a parked-out Ranger Rob (Damian MacLellan) challenged for the top spot through a :28.4 first quarter. After a half in :58.1, Ranger Rob threw in the towel while Panzano trotted on to three-quarters in 1:28.4. Hot Fudge Sundae was hot on his heels the whole way and trotted by as they turned for home then held off the oncoming favourite, Dresden newcomer Workingitonbroadway (Don Rankin), by a head at the finish line in 1:59.4. Daylon Midnight (Garrett Rooney) came on for third while Panzano faded to fourth.
Trained by Angie Carroll and co-owned with Mary Carroll, Hot Fudge Sundae is perfect in his three Preferred starts at the current Dresden meet and now has four wins from 20 races this year. The six-year-old Kadabra gelding picked up his 15th career win as he inched closer to $100,000 in lifetime earnings, now less than $5,000 shy of the six-figure mark.
Sent postward as the second choice at odds of 2-1, Hot Fudge Sundae paid $6 to win.
