Two-year-old trotters were in the spotlight Thursday evening at Woodbine Mohawk Park as the oval featured first round action of the Pure Ivory Series and the Millard Farms Series.

The annual two-year-old summer series kicked off with the Millard Farms (formerly Define The World) and Pure Ivory each requiring two $20,000 first leg divisions.

The fillies were up first in the Pure Ivory Series, and a well-behaved You Will Be Queen captured her $20,000 division in 1:58 for the tandem of driver Chris Christoforou and trainer Dustin Jones.

The daughter of Royalty For Life-Dewdle All Day got away third while Spruce Creek shot to the top and had the field chasing her past the quarter pole in :28.4. You Will Be Queen brushed to the top in the backstretch, and once she cleared she went on to post middle panels of 1:00.3 and 1:30.1. She then used a :27.4 closing quarter to win by 3-1/4 lengths over Serenity Joy. Spruce Creek was third.

Dustin Jones Stables Inc and Herbert Horses Inc share ownership on the undefeated lass who has two wins in as many assignments. She’s banked $21,750 to date.

Dicentra was a handy winner in her $20,000 division for the team of driver Bob McClure and trainer/breeder Luc Blais.

The daughter of Muscle Mass-Dicent No was third and parked while Keystone Cecilia led the field past the quarter pole in :28.4. There were a number of lead changes in the backstretch, and when the field zipped past the half it was Anna Bolena breaking the beam at that marker in :59.2. She was still in charge at the three-quarter pole in 1:29.4, but she couldn’t fend off the late driving Dicentra who kicked home in :28.4 to win by 3-1/2 lengths over Ad Astra in 1:59. Anna Bolena was third.

Sent off as the 6-5 favourite, Dicentra posted her first career win for Determination of Montreal, QC.

Macho Martini gave McClure, Blais and Determination another trip to victory lane thanks to his 1:56.3 triumph in the first division of the Millard Farms Series.

McClure came away third with the favourite while Highland Mowgli fired to the front and controlled the tempo through fractions of :29, :58.4 and 1:28.1. Macho Martini started a first-over rally around the final turn, and he kicked home in :27.3 to win by 5-1/4 lengths over Highland Mowgli. Third prize went to Warrawee Whisper.

The son of Muscle Mass-Peach Martini is now 2-for-2 to kick off his career. The $10,000 payday boosted his overall cash stash to $46,933.

Black Tie Bash was much the best in the second division for the duo of driver Jody Jamieson and trainer/co-owner Blake MacIntosh.

The son of Chapter Seven-Daylon Mermaid sat the pocket behind Golden Compass through a first quarter clocked in :28.2, but as the field entered the backstretch Jamieson brushed his charge to the top. Black Tie Bash went on to carve out middle splits of :59.1 and 1:28 before using a :29.3 closing quarter to win by 4-1/2 lengths over On A Streak in 1:57.3. Golden Compass weakened late and settled for third.

MacIntosh shares ownership on the colt with Fred Brayford, Mortgage Boys Stable and Black Tie Bash Stable. The win improved his record to 2-1-0 from four assignments and the $10,000 payday boosted his bankroll to $23,022.

The Millard Farms and Pure Ivory Series will take next week off before resuming on August 6.
