ATSS Mania Hits Truro

Fans were treated to a stakes-filled card of racing Tuesday evening at Truro Raceway, as two- and three-year-old stars were in town doing battle in nine divisions of the Atlantic Sires Stakes.

Two-year-old trotters kicked off the card, and Dusty Lane Galaxy dug down deep to produce a 2:11.3 score in his $7,400 assignment for the duo of driver Gary Chappell and trainer Stacey Lund. The son of PJs Nabby-Starinthesky drew clear to win by 2-1/4 lengths over Phantom Beau and A C Image.

Peter Buchanan of North Wiltshire and the Estate Of George L Boswall of Frenchfort, PEI own the youngster who is now 2-for-3 to start his career. He’s stashed away $5,652 to date.

Glencove Yoshi motored to a five-length victory in the second division for driver Kenny Arsenault. The Carl Bagnall trainee halted the teletimer in 2:08.2 while defeating Scarlet Macdream and Oceanview Rose.

The win improved the rookie’s record to 1-1-0 from three trips to the track, and the lion’s share of the purse lifted her lifetime earnings to $4,638. Bagnall bred and owns the daughter of Bo W-Saulsbrook Image.

Rash Statement broke into the win column for the first time this year while matching his lifetime mark in the first $7,260 division for three-year-old trotters. The son of Northern Bailey-Reloaded marched to the lead in the late stages of the mile and eventually drew clear to win by seven lengths in 2:06.2. Windemere Norma was next best, with Dusty Lane Nick nabbing the third-place finish.

Clare MacDonald mapped out the winning trip for the gelding who is owned and trained by Joey Smallwood of Stratford, PEI. The three-time winner bumped his bank account to $16,626 with the win.

Taliesin extended his winning streak to three-in-a-row thanks to a 2:05.3 triumph in the second division for the sophomores. The son of Northern Bailey-Southview Leah led the field through intervalss of :31, 1:03.3 and 1:34.3 before using a :31-second closing panel to win by a two-length margin over Ashotinthedark. Dusty Lane Shayn managed to take home third prize.

O’Brien Award winner Marc Campbell trains and drove the gelding to his seventh lifetime tally. The trotter has stashed away $26,833 in earnings for the Buntainwood Farm of Brackley Beach, PEI.

Saulsbrook Alana celebrated a maiden-breaking win in the first of two ‘A’ divisions for the two-year-old pacing fillies. Marc Campbell rallied the Kevin MacLean trainee to the two-length score over Absolootly Hot in 2:00.1. Third prize was earned by Pictonian Sareta.

The Western Paradise-Atlanta Girl miss owns a 1-0-2 record from her first three assignments, and she’s potted just over $5,500 along the way for owner Reg Mac Pherson of Stratford, PEI.

Lovineveryminute held on gamely to take the other $7,480 division, and in doing so she kept her undefeated record intact. Sent off as the 2-5 choice, the daughter of Western Paradise-Deliver Me front-stepped through splits of :31.2, 1:04.3 and 1:35.3 before sprinting home in :29.3 to secure the win by three-quarters of a length over Sail Through in 2:05.1. Sea Anna Win grabbed the show dough.

Gilles Barrieau guided the Earl Watts student to the victory, and in doing so she bumped her cash stash to $9,927. The homebred is owned by River Valley Management of Grand Bay-Westfield, NB.

Elm Grove Inarush also kept her undefeated streak alive thanks to her wire-to-wire tally in the final division for the rookie pacing fillies. The daughter of Coastocoast Yankee-Seawind Alpha doled out fractions of :30.1, 1:02.1 and 1:33.2 before scooting home in :29.2 to win by a pair of lengths over P H Sunshine in 2:02.4. Rounding out the top three finishers was Emily Annabel Mac.

Mark Bradley mapped out the winning trip for the career winner of $9,927, who is owned by trainer Eddy Doucette along with partners Blaine Thibeau, Gordon MacLeod and Grant Mann of Kensington, PEI.

The $2,500 ‘B’ divisions for two-year-old pacing fillies went to Im A Sumbunnie (2:07.2) and Newsmaker (2:04).
