Three-year-old trotting filly Lastkickathecan earned her third Prospect Series victory of the season when she rallied wide from the backfield in the Kawartha Downs leg on Friday evening, July 21.
Hall of Fame driver Doug Brown picked up the catch-drive aboard Lastkickathecan for her Kawartha debut and they won the $8,900 series event in 1:58.4 by two lengths for trainer Dale Fritz and owner Matthew Trelford of Mildmay, Ont. The Wheeling N Dealin filly was also a winner in a pair of Prospect divisions at Grand River Raceway last month.
Favourite Cash Deals, a three-time Prospect winner, led the field of nine until the stretch when Lastkickathecan trotted by. Savannahs Dream finished second off a pocket trip while Its Sally Deal and Sant Ambroggio were next across the line with Cash Deals fading to fifth.
Coming off a 1:55.4 career-best effort at Woodbine Mohawk Park last week, Lastkickathecan paid $5.80 to win as the 9-5 second choice. A one-time starter as a two-year-old, she is now five-for-eight in her career with earnings of $26,710.
