Hall of Fame horseman Doug Brown doubled up on Sunday night (July 22) at Georgian Downs, winning the co-featured $11,500 Preferred Handicaps in rein to trotter Pollar Hall ($37.30) and pacer Ideal Jet ($6.80).
Pollar Hall pulled off a 17-1 upset as he collared popular pacesetter April Rose (:27.3, :57.4, 1:26.3) at the wire in 1:56.1. Brown worked out a perfect pocket trip aboard the five-year-old Amigo Hall homebred, who took a new lifetime mark while notching his 16th career win and pushing his bankroll over the $100,000 mark for trainer/owner Kevin Davidson. Jangone rallied wide from the backfield to come within a half-length of the top duo.
Ideal Jet overcame the outside post position as he cleared to command at the quarter pole and never looked back in his Georgian Downs debut. Sent postward as the 2-1 second wagering choice in the field of nine, he set fractions of :27.2, :57 and 1:24.3 en route to the one and three-quarter length victory 1:53 flat. The homebred seven-year-old son of Jeremes Jet now boasts 21 career wins and almost $400,000 in earnings for trainer Craig Barrs and co-owner Nurko Sokolovic. Favourite Imsporty journeyed first-over to place and Terra Cotta Lad completed the top three finish order.
