Lauren was a repeat winner while Artic Byrd also emerged victorious in Thursday night’s second leg of the Whenuwishuponastar Pacing Series for two-year-old fillies at Mohawk Racetrack
.
Artic Byrd sat well off the pace in the first split for driver Chris Christoforou and was situated in fifth position, more than five lengths off the lead, as the field turned for home. Despite the deficit, the daughter of Art Major–Tundra Bird uncorked a sparkling :26.4 final quarter to haul down the pacesetting Day To Ponder with Rockratese landing the show spot in the 1:54 mile.
Artic Byrd used similar tactics last week to finish a strong second in her career debut for trainer Bill Cass who co-owns along with John Craig and Danielle Newman of Ontario. She returned $7.50 in her win this week.
In the second $20,000 division, Jody Jamieson executed a third-over trip with Lauren who was able to convert for a hard-fought win over stablemate Strike An Attitude in 1:53. It was Rideintothesunset who garnered the show position.
Lauren is now perfect in two career starts for trainer Bob McIntosh and owners Gordon and Claudia Wright of Charlotte, Michigan. The daughter of Modern Art–One Cadet kicked back $4.50 as the bettor’s choice.
The $50,000 Whenuwishuponastar Pacing Series final will go postward next Thursday night from Mohawk Racetrack.
