It was a night of surprises in the top classes at Grand River Raceway on Tuesday evening as Frenchfrysnvinegar and Keystone Mystique upset the apple cart

in their Preferred assignments.

Driver Doug McNair engineered the winning trip with Frenchfrysnvinegar, who clicked at 6-1 in the $9,800 Preferred Trot for the gals. The Davis Smith student battled on the lead throughout the contest before pulling away to win by a pair of decisive lengths. She stopped the clock in 1:59 en route to defeating Marclif Victoria and Scottish Cross.

Smith shares ownership on the four-year-old daughter of Angus Hall-Gugus with Big Als Stables Inc. of Woodbridge, ON. It was her sixth win of the season and her ninth victory to date. She has stashed away more than $155,000 in lifetime earnings.

Nick Steward power-drove Keystone Mystique to a 1:54 score in the $9,000 Preferred Pace for fillies and mares, and that music to the ears of the people that cashed in on the 23-1 upsetter. The Paul Taylor trained four-year-old daughter of Camluck-Miss Rose blasted to the top and played a serious game of “catch me if you can” through panels of :27.1, :55 and 1:23.4. She paced home in :30.1 to win by more than a length over My Ideal. Live To Dream rounded out the top three.

Glenview Livestock Ltd. of Wallenstein, ON holds the papers on the 17-time winner, who won for the fourth time in just 14 trips postward this season. The lion’s share of the purse bumped her 2009 earnings to $23,010, while her overall total climbed to $145,346.
