On the heels of a record Governor’s Plate Night wager, action returns to Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway on Tuesday, July 22.

The Prince County oval set a record handle on the biggest night of the year for a fourth straight year with $192,319 handled. Summerside returns to regular Tuesday action with a competitive 15-dash program starting at 6 p.m.

The feature hits the track in Race 14 carrying a $4,000 purse. Howmac Charmer will be the one to knock off, fresh off a 1:53.3 victory during Governor’s Plate Week racing. The five-year-old son of Malicious is a four-time winner so far this season to boost his lifetime total to 14 victories. The Kyle Williams trainee will have Corey MacPherson above the wheels for owner Doug Williams of Guelph, Ont.

Freemans Legacy (Jaycob Sweet) has rail control for owner MacKenzie Arsenault of Alberton, P.E.I. after a third-place finish in 1:54.1 in his latest. The four-year-old son of Pang Shui, trained by Sweet, has won three times this year.

Doc Awesome (David Dowling) holds down Post 2 for trainer Darla MacEachern, who co-owns him with Allen Gaudet and Mike Cameron, both of Summerside, P.E.I. The All Bets Off five-year-old was a winner in 1:56 two starts back at Red Shores Summerside.

Rose Run X Con (Norris Rogers) is the Post 4 entry from the Nicholas Oakes Stable and owner JD Racing Inc., of Cornwall, P.E.I. The six-year-old son of Mcardle has acclimated well to the red soil with wins on July 1 and July 8 after racing the past few seasons at Yonkers Raceway in New York.

Rounding out the field is Post 5 entry Sauble Attack (Ken Murphy) for co-owner Donald Callbeck of Summerside, P.E.I. and co-owner and trainer Paul Biggar of Tyne Valley, P.E.I. The Bettors Delight seven-year-old is a two-time winner this season.

The Backstretch Beat likes Howmac Charmer on top.

“Howmac Charmer was a huge winner in his latest and he loves to get rolling and grind away. The Kyle Williams stable has been solid all meet and this guy looks ready to win again in a compact but tough field. With his early foot and sharp form, he could be the one they’re all chasing. Top call in here with a shot to go back-to-back-to-back.”
