Six divisions of freshman colt trotters took to the track Thursday (July 20) at Eldorado Scioto Downs in Buckeye Stallion Series action and the fastest division of the night was captured by Gypsy Hill.
Anthony MacDonald sat in the pocket with the What The Hill colt until the stretch and shot down the passing lane to win by a length in 1:57.4. Gypsy Hill has won two of three for trainer Jason McGinnis and the ownership group of Thestable Gypsy Hill and Hutchison Harness. Bob Da Bomber finished second with Hes A Tuff T third.
The only first-leg winner to survive was Beaueastel, who now has victories in the first two legs. Peter Wrenn took Beaueastel to the lead heading to the half-mile mark and cruised to an easy two-length victory in a new lifetime mark of 1:58 to win the $20,000 second division. The son of What The Hill is three-for-three this year for trainer Melanie Wrenn and Wrenn Racing. Dew Me A Solid was second with Forever A Lion AS finishing third.
In the first division of the evening, Wavethefreddiebird with Brett Miller went to the lead off the gate and fought off a backstretch challenge from Liberty Street and Kurt Sugg before winning by four lengths in 1:58. It was the first win in three starts for the Scott Cox trainee. The son of Long Tom is owned by Green Wave Racing, CJ Davis Farms and Wayne Zollars. What A Dandy was second with Liberty Street holding on for third.
In the fourth division, Mr Wwc with Elliott Deaton raced to the lead just past the quarter pole and cruised to a one-length victory in 1:59.1. Tt was the first career win for Mr Wwc. Mr Wwc, who is trained by Wes Hershberger and owned by Callum Racing. Sir Maverick and Swan Hilluva Rush rounded out the top three.
The final two divisions waited through a two-hour lightning delay before taking the track.
In the fifth division, 37-1 longshot Source Code with Tyler Smith grabbed the lead off the gate and led wire-to-wire for his first career win by two lengths in 2:00.3. The son of Mister Anson is trained by Herman Hagerman and owned by Top Shelf Stable. No Nap Nash rallied down the stretch to finish second with My Name Jeff third.
The final division of the night was captured by Irresistible Son and Anthony MacDonald. It was the second BSS win of the night for MacDonald. Irresistible Son made his move around the final turn and reeled in the leader mid-stretch to win by three lengths in 1:59.2. It was the first win of the year for the Triumphant Caviar colt. Jason McGinnis trains for the ownership group of Thestable Irresistibleson and Hutchison Harness. Be Not Beastly finished second with Dela Grande third.
Buckeye Stallion Series action continues on Friday (July 21) at Eldorado Scioto Downs with six divisions of freshman colt pacers. First race post time is 5:50 p.m.
