A pair of $9,500 Preferred 3 events highlighted the Tuesday (July 21) card at Georgian Downs, with Mach Steady scoring in the Pace and Tax Savings taking the Trot.

Mach Steady led every step as the 3-2 favourite to win with a 1:53.2 mile. The six-year-old Mach Three gelding took the field to the quarter in :27.1 and soon endured first-over pressure from Mach Code moving to a :56 half. Holding firm on the lead while challenged by Mach Code, Mach Steady tripped the three-quarters timer in 1;25 and turned away his uncovered foe in progress to a one-and-a-quarter length win over pocket-sitter Oceanview Magnum, who finished second in a dead heat with G A Speed Sammy.

Owned by Jennifer Dodsworth and Randy Rutledge, Mach Steady won his third race from 10 starts this season and his 16th from 58 overall, earning $140,319. Paul Davies trains and drives the $5.00 winner.

Later on the card, Tax Savings capitalized off a ground-saving trip to win by a half length in 1:56.1. Driver Colin Kelly secured the pocket for the six-year-old Windsong Espoir mare while Kris Me Goodnight posted a clip of :27.4, :58.3 and 1:27.4. Race-favourite Ole Jack Magic tipped first over from third moving to the final turn but stalled rounding the final turn. Through the stretch Kris Me Goodnight clung to the lead but failed to withstand Tax Savings’ bid up the open stretch, while Ole Jack Magic settled for third.

Owned by Ashley Bako, Tax Savings won his second race from five starts this season and his 17th from 86 overall, earning $127,391. Jared Bako trains the $8.30 winner.
