Truro Cancels After Race 5

Truro Raceway was forced to cancel its live program of racing for today (Sunday, July 21) after Race 5.

The mid-card cancellation has come due to unsafe track conditions.

The seven-race card was to host a pair of $25,205 divisions of the Frank and Beth Stanfield Memorial for three-year-old pacing fillies, but only one of those tilts (Race 4) was able to head postward.

Woodmere Tango, an Articulator filly driven by her trainer, Clare MacDonald, left from Post 2, tussled on the front end, and was able to prevail by a head in a mark-lowering 1:58.

Woodmere Tango, who is owned by Morah Kerr of Greenfield, NS, cut the fractions (:27.4, :57.4, 1:28.1) and sparred bridle to bridle with a closing Elm Grove Nellie in the final quarter. When all was said and done, it was Elm Grove Nellie (driven by Dale Spence) that had to settle for the bridesmaid’s role. The Kenny Arsenault-driven Emilys Angel, who had also come calling late, finished third, beaten just a half length.

The second of the Stanfield Memorial divisions had been carded as Race 7. Trot Insider has not received information regarding make-up plans at this point, but will convey that information if/when it is received.
