A trip to Hanover Raceway on Wednesday turned out to be both profitable and memorable for Team Martin and pacer Bolero Trisco
.
The seven-year-old son of Northern Luck-Bolero Ultima prevailed in a $6,000 conditioned event in a time of 1:53.4, and in doing so he matched the track record for older pacing horses.
Mathieu Martin hustled the veteran to the lead, and together they wheeled their way through intervals of :27.3, :57 and 1:24.4 before closing out the mile with a 29-second closing panel. Team Mate, who sat a pocket trick, was 1-3/4 lengths in arrears. Ricky Bobby, who wanted to go fast, tagged along to and took home the third prize.
Sent off as the third choice in the wagering at odds of 5-2, Bolero Trisco won for the 25th time in his career and for the third time this season from 23 tries. He recently went past $250,000 in career earnings for Daniel Martin and Pierre Louis Levesque.
The 1:53.4 performance earned Bolero Trisco a spot beside Chevron Hanover in the track's pacing horse record book. Chevron Hanover originally set the bar for the aged pacing horses when he toured the oval in 1:53.4 on July 28, 2010.
On June 11 of this year, Secret Weapon, a nine-year-old son of Western Hanover, paced to a Hanover Raceway aged gelding track record of 1:53 for trainer Wayne Preszcator and driver Scott Zeron.
