Junebugs Baby was a wire-to-wire winner in the Louis Beaton Memorial Pace at Inverness Raceway on Sunday afternoon.

The race, which carried a purse of $1,500, was named in honour of standardbred owner Louis Beaton, who passed away last year.

During the featured finale, favourite Junebugs Baby turned back a challenge from eventual third-place finisher Salute and paced home to win in 1:59.2. Schooner, who is owned and trained by Beaton's son Anthony, finished one and a half lengths behind in second.

Junebugs Baby was driven to victory by Fraser Turnbull, who trains and co-owns the homebred five-year-old son of Western Paradise with John Turnbull Jr. of Glace Bay, N.S.

Earlier in the day, Camco Richie equalled Camco Kyle and Angelfire's 1:57.4 track record for three-year-old pacing geldings. Katie Miller engineered the upset win aboard the son of Signyourlifeaway for trainer Angus MacLean and owner Travis MacLean of Port Hood, N.S.
