Assigned the outermost post in the sextet, The Light Speed fired for the front and held command to the finish of a 1:51.4 mile to win the $10,000 Preferred Handicap Pace at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Sunday night (July 2).

Trainer-driver Guy Gagnon grabbed control with The Light Speed past a :26.4 first quarter to pocket 8-5 favourite Bayfield Beach moving past the stands first time. He continued to roll at an honest clip to a :55 half and to three-quarters in 1:23, where Flash Cube pulled first up from third with Mayhem Like Me catching cover to the turn. The Light Speed’s lead diminished through the lane as Flash Cube and Mayhem Like Me loomed closer, but the five-year-old Moon Beam gelding held a head in front to the beam to win. Mayhem Like Me rallied for second with Flash Cube third and East End rolling from last for fourth.

The Light Speed competes for owner-breeder Michel Nolette. He won his 36th race from 84 starts and has now earned $255,954. The Light Speed paid $5.80 to win.
