The Standardbred Owners Association of New York’s Board of Directors has announced that it has endorsed Yonkers Raceway’s application to the NYS Gaming Commission to move the finish line.
The endorsement was followed up this week with a letter of support for Yonkers Raceway’s application to move the finish line to its more conventional place on the half mile oval, citing amongst other things the recommendation from the gaming commission’s own fan-advisory committee.
The SOA of NY’s support for the track’s application to shorten the stretch and move the start/finish line approximately 100 feet to the east, back to the traditional half mile track starting position. Such a move will help eliminate the distorted camera angle that currently exists at the finish of races, which makes it difficult for viewers to properly determine the correct order of finish. A shorter stretch run should also encourage more movement and activity earlier in the mile from the drivers.
The SOA of NY is hopeful that the New York State Gaming Commission will approve Yonkers Raceway’s request and that this change can be implemented in the near future.
