Not only did trainer Kelly Hoerdt score a hat trick on the eight-race card at The Track on 2 on Sunday (July 19), but with one winner from his stable also lowered a track record in the process.
After going wire to wire with Queen Of Thrones ($3.90) in the opener, Hoerdt landed in the winner’s circle with Evermor Legacy ($3.00). The three-year-old filly by Toucam Sam swept to the front after a :29 first quarter and paced middle splits of :58.2 and 1:27.3 before kicking away to a six-length victory in 1:56.2—besting the previous track record of 1:56.3 set by Treasure Horizon set in late June. Hoerdt then won his third race on the day at the end of the card, taking the finale with Wits Beach ($17.20).
Alongside Evermor Legacy, Hf Thegreatpumpkin ($6.00) also equaled a track record when winning the $4,900 Ray Gemmill Pace—in the process beating race-favourite Thankyaverymuch from Hoerdt’s barn. Pacing fractions of :28.2, :58.1 and 1:27.2, Hf Thegreatpumpkin held a wide lead through the stretch and stopped the clock in 1:53.4, equaling the record set by Justabitcrazy in Oct. 2019.
