Modern Best Converts At Inverness

Simon Poirier and Chad MacDonnell's Modern Best ($7.10) converted a pocket trip into a 1:59 victory in Sunday afternoon's (July 19) featured $1,250 winners-over pace at Inverness Raceway.

Modern Best had no trouble securing the pocket behind a :29.3 first quarter from early pacesetter Your Raider Boy (Leander Beaton), and she contently drafted through middle splits of 1:00 and 1:29.4 while Your Raider Boy was engaged by the first-over Chase N Madi (Rodney Gillis) in an extended duel. Driver Redmond Doucet found room to work Modern Best free off the home turn, and the 12-year-old Modern Art mare lifted out of the pocket to defeat a resurgent Chase N Madi — who stalled off the corner — by a half length in 1:59. Buttons (Joseph Poirier) took third off a cover trip, while Your Raider Boy finished a worn-down fourth.

Stanley Harper trains Modern Best, who increased her career win tally to 47 with her second seasonal score.

For Doucet, the featured win capped a grand slam on the seven-race card.
