Major Leaguer First At Vernon

Major Leaguer captured the $5,600 featured pace at Vernon Downs on Saturday (July 18).

Major Leaguer flew out of the gate and went right to the front. He hit the first quarter first in :26.4. Bettors Edge followed in the pocket as Major Leaguer hit the half in :55.3. Golden Gun was the first to make a move going first over from third. He could not gain any traction and dropped back. Major Leaguer was first to three-quarters in 1:22.4.

As they reached the stretch Bettors Edge came out of the pocket but couldn't get close as Major Leaguer won in a lifetime best of 1:50.1. Bettors Edge settled for second with Drunkonaplane coming up to get third.

Major Leaguer is a six-year-old gelding by Art Major. He is owned by Whittemore and trained by Marissa Chandbourne. It was his third straight win this season and 29 victories overall. Jimmy Whittemore drove the $4.30 winner.

Whittemore, John MacDonald, and Mitch Cushing all had driving doubles on the night.

Vernon Downs returns to live racing on Thursday (July 23) featuring two division of the New York Sire Stakes for three-year-old pacing fillies. The 15-race card starts at 4 p.m. (EDT).
