Rider Sarah Town earned her first win of the 2015 Racing Under Saddle season on Saturday night at Georgian Downs aboard trotter Santo Domingo.
Town rode Santo Domingo to a 2:00.2 triumph in the evening's $5,000 under saddle race. After following in third-place through fractions :30.2, 1:01.2 and 1:31, Santo Domingo overtook Thor Seelster (Natalie Elliott) and Sas Warkentin (Britt Kennedy) and then drew off by seven and three-quarter lengths.
Santo Domingo was the 7-2 third choice in the field, which was scratched down to seven starters, and he paid $9.60 to win.
The victory was the second in RUS competition for Town, who won the first under saddle wagering race in North American history last year at Hanover Raceway riding Radical Dreamer.
Santo Domingo is an eight-year-old son of Amigo Hall, trained by Mike Guitard and owned by Jalade Investments Ltd., Deanmar Sons Stable and Peter Miskolczi. He has won 22 races lifetime and over $260,000 in purse earnings. Saturday's victory was the gelding's first under saddle and followed up a second-place finish in his RUS debut at Flamboro Downs back in mid-May.
The next RUS Ontario race is scheduled for Friday, July 24 at Grand River Raceway.
