Driver Trevor Ritchie and trainer Frank O’Reilly joined forces to capture the lone $20,000 division in Sunday’s opening leg of the In Free Trotting Series at Mohawk

Racetrack with a good-looking youngster named Warrawee Lassie.

The three-week event for two-year-old fillies attracted a group of eight for Sunday’s opening round, and it was a walk in the park for the daughter of Kadabra-Independent Lassie who is owned by O’Reilly and partners Dr. Michael Wilson, John Fielding and Jim Fielding.

Sleek Agent marched the field to the quarter pole in :30.2 while Warrawee Lassie floated off the gate and tucked into the three-hole. She wasn’t there for very long, however, as Ritchie had her out and rolling as the rookie neared the mid-way point. Warrawee Lassie took over the lead shortly past the 1:02.1 half-mile marker and once she cleared it was all over.

He trotted evenly to the three-quarter marker in 1:32.1 before rattling home in :29.4. She was two-and-three-quarter-lengths ahead of runner-up Stormont Pillow. Longshot Sleek Agent rounded out the top three.

It was a maiden-breaking score for Warrawee Lassie, who is now 1-for-2 to start her career.
