Riggins, driven by Tom Jackson and trained by Paul Reid, captured the $24,000 Open Handicap Pace at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs Saturday evening

.

This marked the initial win of the 2010 season for Riggins, a five-year-old Art Major stallion, who amassed over $271,000 in earnings last season with eight wins in 30 starts.

Leaving from the five post after three horses scratched out of the feature, Riggins took the lead from Golden Receiver (Joe Pavia Jr.) shortly before the clubhouse turn.

Riggins then stayed on the front end the rest of the way, getting to the half in 55.3, and three-quarters in 1:22.4 before stopping the timer in 1:50.2.

Transcending (Matt Kakaley) closed hard for second with Golden Receiver third, both one and three-quarter lengths back.

Reid also won with By Your Side (1:55.1) and I Kill Time (1:56.2), both driven by the meet’s leading driver, George Napolitano Jr.
