Driver Pascal Berube and trainer Philippe Belanger swept the first two races at Sudbury Downs winning both $7,000 Thunder Trot Claiming Series divisions for $9,000 claimers on Saturday night.

Fan favourite Vawns Chip delivered on his pari-mutuel promise with a wire-to-wire victory in the opener. The 10-year-old gelded son of Pine Chip-Vawns Victory stopped the clock in 2:01.4, winning by over two lengths. Zorgwijk Freedom (Jason Ryan) and Stonebridge Royal (Allan Hohner) finished second and third.

Belanger shared ownership of Vawns Chip with Andre Forcier of Azilda and Kenneth Desjardins of Hanmer, ON. The veteran trotter, who has won half of his 18 starts this season banking $29,825, was claimed by Mike Lamoureux.

Kangamangus, the 5-2 second choice in the other division, also turned in a front-end victory for Berube and Belanger. The five-year-old gelded son of Angus Hall-Phar Khan was much the best winning by four and three-quarter lengths in 2:01.2. Armbro Acme (Mario Rivest) and favourite Lady Sylberun (Mike MacNeill) were second and third.

Belanger and Forcier co-own the winner of three races in 21 starts, who has earned $23,680 this year.
