Soft Shot improved her record competing in the $20,422 Fillies & Mares Open Pace at Tioga Downs to two-for-two with a repeat 1:51 victory for driver Kyle Swift and trainer Jaymes McAssey.

After topping the mares in her Tioga debut a week ago, Soft Shot won again on Friday, July 17.

Swift had Soft Shot on the move after a contested :26.4 opening panel, sweeping to command from fourth as they went by the grandstand for the first time. Soft Shot led to the half in :55.2 and shook off first-over backstretch challenger Glittering Hope (James Kennedy) on the way to three-quarters in 1:22.2. As the mares reached the stretch, it became a race for second as Soft Shot opened up 2-1/4 lengths. Pocket-pursuer Chanceoflightning (Cory Stratton) took second over late-closer Elegant A (Braxten Boyd).

Soft Shot paid $2.74 to win as the 1-5 favourite.

The five-year-old daughter of Heston Blue Chip-Aims Whisper notched her seventh win in 19 starts during a six-figure season for owner Paul O'Neil of Saratoga Springs, New York.

The former Jugette champion now has 26 career victories and earnings just shy of $620,000.

Ridge Warren and Braxten Boyd each had driving grand slams during the 14-race card. Kevin Reynold Jr. had a training double.

Live harness racing returns to Tioga Downs on Saturday, July 18 starting at 6:15 p.m.
