The three-year-old Western Ideal gelding Full Send paced the fastest mile in the two years of Pennsylvania Fair Sire Stakes two-day event at Silver Springs Ranch, located near The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono.
Full Send headed down the road and came home in :29 to reset the record to 1:57.4. Tom Jackson was in the sulky for trainer Eli Scott Jr., and the Chesapeake Equine Clinic Inc. That time was also the fastest mile at the Pennsylvania fairs this year (only two stops).
Other 2:00 milers on the Friday card for sophomores were Champ Charbel, a son of Ponder who won in 1:59.1 for driver William Carter and owner/trainer Joseph Karrat, and the Captaintreacherous filly Rydia Hanover, who won in 2:00 for trainer/driver Wayne Long and owners Art Stafford, Andrew Stafford, Thomas Ireland, and Larry Martin – and in a “B” division of the Sire Stakes, no less.
Other horses who lowered the Silver Springs mark for their particular divisions were the Father Patrick sophomore gelding Penance, whose 2:01.3 victory for driver Chris Shaw, trainer Bob Rougeaux III, and Brocious Racing Stable Inc. was also the fastest fair trot of the season, and the Andover Hall two-year-old trotting filly Divainthereddress, who stopped the timer in 2:03.1, also in a “B” Sire Stakes cut. Divainthereddress is owned, trained, and driven by Don Wiest, who is still going strong fewer than 100 days before his 90th birthday.
The two pacing fillies who famously dead-heated in their Fair Sire Stakes Championship last October won in consecutive races – Dream Dancing in 2:02 and Silly But Serious in 2:01.2.
Dave Brickell and Aaron Johnston both drove three winners during the meet to tie for the top in that category; Roger Hammer conditioned four winners to head the trainers listings.
