The trotters are in the limelight Tuesday at the Hippodrome 3R with three divisions of the Breeders Cup Series, two divisions of the Future Stars Series plus an Invitational Trot.
There are 13 harness races at H3R Tuesday and eight of them are trotting races.
The main focus will be on three races that are not on the wagering program but will be held between races. These are the final preliminary round of the Breeders Cup Series for three-year-old colt and filly trotters. Due to short fields, these races will be held between wagering races on the program.
These young trotters are vying for points in the third and final preliminary round of the Breeders Cup Series. After Tuesday’s races, the top eight point earners from both the filly and colt divisions return on Sunday, September 8 for their respective $65,000 finals.
The first division for fillies takes place after the second race and featured is the leading contest to sweep the entire series, HP Run Like Mom, who is going for her fifth straight victory.
The daughter of Kadabra starts from post three for trainer Jean Tourigny and will be driven by Stephane Brosseau. Last week she tied her lifetime best mile with a 2:00.4 triumph.
The second division for colts goes after the fourth race where Kinnder Dangerous is also looking to sweep the series. He starts from post three for driver Justin Filion and goes for his third straight win. He has won his last two starts in 2:00 and 1:59.3 for owner/breeder/trainer Denitza Petrova.
The third division takes place after the sixth race where Affirmee and driver Pierre-Luc Roy start from post four and heads the field. Last week the son of Angus Hall wired the field for his first win of the season.
The two-year-old trotters in the start of the Future Stars Series are featured in the fourth and sixth races.
The fillies are first with nine starters in the fourth race. Magic Lady, who drew the rail, is the favourite, having won her baby race last week at H3R for trainer/driver Yves Filion. Another return winner is Poupee (post five) for driver Gaetan Lamy.
The colts go in the sixth race headed by Nobodynosjustice from post one for driver Stephane Brosseau. The son of Justice Hall won two starts back at Mohawk Raceway in 2:02.2.
The top trotters at H3R will do battle in the eighth race. The early favourite is Unabating, who starts from the far outside in post eight for driver/trainer Guy Gagnon.
Last week Unabating made his debut at H3R a memorable one, going first-over against Caroluzzo and grinding out an impressive 1:58.3 triumph. It was his third straight win and will have his work cut out for him starting from the far outside.
Torches Angel is the second choice in the race. She is one of three mares in the field and starts from post three for driver Pierre-Luc Roy. She was second to Unabating last week.
Other contenders include KFB Amigo Cool (post five), Four Starz Speed (post four) and Wings Of Ballykeel (post one).
