Gentry Seelster has been a model of consistency for his connections, now with 90 percent of his seasonal starts resulting in paydays after a win in the top class at Northside Downs on Saturday (July 16).
Even-money choice Gentry Seelster ($4.10) had a chance to drop into the pocket behind Red Rum She Wrote (Martin Bates) in the $1,600 Winners Over Pace but driver Mark Pezzarello wanted nothing to do with the two hole. In fact, Gentry Seelster didn't clear to the pylons until after the :27.4 opening quarter.
After taking control, Pezzarello was able to ratchet down the speed to steal a middle half in a minute courtesy consecutive 30-second splits (:57.4 and 1:27.4) to hold off the advancing attack of second choice Mando Fun (Adam Lynk). After rebuffing that challenge, Gentry Seelster needed just a :30.1 closer to hit the wire a length and a quarter the best in 1:58. Runaway Mystery (Harold Leblanc Jr.) edged out Red Rum She Wrote for the place spot.
Five-year-old Gentry Seelster (Mach Three - Goddesss Princess) is trained by Robert MacNeil, and he co-owns the pacer with Joseph MacNeil of Ingonish, N.S. and Bernard MacNeil of Miscouche, P.E.I. In 10 seasonal starts, Gentry Seelster sports a 3-3-1 summary with $3,720 earned. Lifetime, the 12th career victory lifted his bankroll over the $42,000 plateau.
