Campaigned by the husband and wife team of John and Kathy Cecchin, Briggs scored a sharp maiden-breaking victory in the second leg of the Prospect Series for two-year-old pacing colts and geldings on Friday evening (July 15) at Grand River Raceway.
Driven by Garrett Rooney in the $7,200 event, Briggs won his second career start in 1:57.3 after he led through splits of :28.1, :58.2 and 1:27.4 and kept 1-2 favourite Marshall Zhukov (Mario Baillargeon) at bay. Trinity La Menace (J Harris) finished well back in third.
The Sportswriter-Beachs N Dreams gelding, who debuted at the Grassroots level, returned $5.60 to win as the 9-5 second choice.
