Four divisions of the opening round of the Breeders Trophy Series for three-year-old pacers headline the Sunday (July 16) card of harness racing at Hippodrome 3R.
Each division races for a purse of $7,500 with the top point earners after three preliminary rounds returning to 3R on Sunday, September 10 for their respective $65,000 finals.
The stakes action gets underway in the third race, the first division for the pacing colts and geldings, featuring Little Diamond from post two for driver William Roy. He was second in 1:57.2 against older horses in his last start. He will be taking on return winner Bets Beach from post five and Ontario invader Fablo from post four.
The second colt division is the seventh race where last year’s Champion Albert Alpha goes from post six for driver Jimmy Gagnon. Also in the race is Fantome En Joie from post two for driver Stephane Brosseau. Unraced at two, the gelding has made up for lost time and is on a three-race winning streak at 3R, winning his last start in an impressive mile in 1:58.4.
The pacing fillies get underway in the fourth race where last year’s Champion, Pocahontas Du Lac starts from post seven for driver Pierre-Luc Roy and is still seeking her first win of the season in six starts.
Her main competition will come from Make Bet SBG in post two for driver-trainer Sylvain Grenier and Godiva Ice Cream from the rail for driver Robert Shepherd.
YS Sensationalcity is the 5/2 favourite in the sixth race, the second division of the series, for driver Jocelyn Gendron from post four. Two starts back she was on a three-race winning streak and scored a lifetime best mile of 1:57.1.
Also in the competitive field are Lady Corona to the favourite's inside in post three, Mach N Cheddar from post two and rail starter GA Speed Matrix.
