On Saturday night (July 15), Kawartha Downs featured the opening leg of the Prospect Series for two-year-old colt trotters.
In the lone $8,600 contest, Expidition Pass rallied from off the pace for catch-driver Reg Gassien. The son of Alarm Detector was fourth after the start. He was behind long-time leader Eiffel Power (Samuel Fillion), who took the field through fractions of :30.3, 1:00.3 and 1:32.2.
Gassien moved first-over after the halfway point and eventually wore down the leader to win in 2:02.1. They then had to hold off a late-charging Grenville Heaven (Doug Hie), who rallied to be second by a head. Eiffel Power held on for third.
The $25,000 Harrisburg purchase paid $7.70 to win for owner Lormer McClure of Hanover, Ont.
Chesapeake Sunrise continues to find the confines in Peterborough, Ont. to his liking, as the three-year-old prevailed for his sixth straight win. Samuel Fillion guided the son of Shadow Play-Enjoy The View to the 1:55.4 victory, with the tandem holding off Sage Duharas (Loic Gueriel) by a nose in a $4,900 conditioned event for trainer Kyle Fellows and owners Yolanda Fellows of Rockwood and Randy Ferris of South Woodslee, Ont.
