Sent the 1-2 favourite, The Fixer took the front and rolled to a 1:54.1 win in the $11,500 Preferred 2 & 3 Handicap Trot at Georgian Downs on Tuesday (July 14).
The Fixer took command from post 4 and carved fractions of :27.4, :57.1 and 1:25.2 while only enduring pressure mid-race from Derf Hanover coming first over. With Derf Hanover then giving way rounding the final turn, The Fixer widened his lead into the stretch as Silverlode cut into the deficit late, but finished two lengths behind the winner in second. Pocket-sitter Tax Savings faltered to third.
Winning his fourth race from 12 starts this season and his 10th from 40 overall, The Fixer has earned $141,773. David Frey trains the $3.00 winner for owner 1652281 Ontario Limited while Scott Coulter sat in the sulky.
Tipping off cover turning for the finish, Outlaw Imahotvixen lunged to a three-quarter length victory in the $10,500 Fillies and Mares Preferred 2 Pace
Azure Seelster set the tempo for the first half of the mile, posting splits of :27 and :56.2. Cracklin Rosie, sitting in the pocket, soon angled off the pegs to pressure the pacesetter up the backside while taking a narrow lead past three-quarters in 1:23.4. Outlaw Imahotvixen sat on Cracklin Rosie’s back rounding the final turn, but kicked off her cover spinning into the stretch. The Jodie Cullen trainee darted to the front through the finish to win, stopping the clock in 1:53.2. Carcklin Rosie settled for second with Top Royal finishing third.
A six-year-old mare by Blue Burner, Outlaw Imahotvixen won her second race from 17 starts this season and her 22nd from 120 overall, earning $232,463. Travis Cullen drove the $3.10 winner for owners Jodie and Ronald Cullen.
Racemup circled to the front past the quarter and maintained command to the finish to take the $8,500 Horses and Geldings Preferred 3 ace in 1:53.1.
Driver Nick Steward sent Racemup after early leader Jewels Dragon, taking the lead past a :27.2 first quarter. The Victor Puddy trainee then slowed to a :56.3 half before reaccelerating to three-quarters in 1:24.1 as Paparazzi Hanover challenged first over. Racemup kept Paparazzi Hanover at bay into the stretch and turned away additional challenges from Mighty Mach and Jewels Dragon rallying off stalking trips late. The five-year-old Whatayasay gelding won by only a half length over Mighty Mach, who beat Jewels Dragon in a photo for second.
Owned by Gordon Mc Donald and Christopher Boland, Racemup won his third race from 16 starts this season and his 19th from 74 overall, earning $195,054. Nick Steward drove the $7.00 winner.
