Bee A Magician earned her second Gold Elimination trophy at Flamboro Downs on Sunday evening, trotting to a 2:00.1 victory in the first of three eliminations for the two-year-old trotting fillies.

With Oakville resident Rick Zeron in the race bike, Bee A Magician eased away from Post 2 and sat fourth as Halloween Candee and defending Gold Final champion Legzy battled to a :29.2 opening quarter. The pair continued to sit on the rail in fourth as Legzy rang up a 1:01 half, and then powered up the outside to the front before the 1:31.1 three-quarters.

On cruise control for the remainder of the mile, Bee A Magician sailed home two and one-quarter lengths ahead of Legzy, with Halloween Candee well back in third.

Zeron drives Bee A Magician for trainer Richard “Nifty” Norman and owners Melvin Hartman of Ottawa, Herb Liverman of Miami Beach, FL and David McDuffee of Delray Beach, FL. The daughter of Kadabra and Beehive also captured her Gold Elimination in the season opener at Kawartha Downs on June 28, but made an unfortunate break in the Gold Final that kept her out of the action. The filly was a $90,000 purchase at last fall’s Harrisburg Yearling Sale and has now recouped $40,000 in her first three starts.

Bee A Magician and Zeron will be hampered by the outside Post 8 in their bid for a second straight victory in next weekend’s $130,000 Gold Final.

Moffat resident Jack Moiseyev opted for front-end tactics with Brenway Dixie in the second $40,000 Gold Elimination and the decision paid off as the Oaklea Julian daughter held off all comers and trotted home a one and three-quarter length winner in 2:01.2.

Charmed Life finished second and Stonebridge Dawn, owned by Ronald Clark, Bentley Clark and trainer Rick McNeill of Brantford and William Harrow of Ilderton, finished third.

Terry Hunter of Cambridge owns Brenway Dixie, who was a modest $1,200 purchase out of last fall’s Fall Extravaganza Mixed Sale, and entrusts her day-to-day care to trainer Patrick Shepherd. The filly finished second by half a length in her June 28 Gold Elimination at Kawartha Downs, but also made an early break in the Gold Final that knocked her out of contention. Moiseyev will send the filly after a second victory from Post 2 in next weekend’s Final.

The last Gold Elimination trophy went home with a filly making the leap up from the Grassroots Series. Fresh off a win in the Grassroots season opener at Kawartha Downs on July 5, Angies Lucky Star and driver Trevor Henry powered up the outside after starting from the trailing Post 9 and reeled in pacesetter Motown Muscle.

Angies Lucky Star stopped the Flamboro Downs teletimer at 2:00.1, equaling the mile she trotted in Kawartha, and bested Motown Muscle by one length. Cha Cha Magic rounded out the top three.

Shannon Henry trains Angies Lucky Star for Trevor Henry Stables Inc of Arthur and Dan McCann of Parkhill. The daughter of Angus Hall and $183,810 winner Angie Blue Chip was a $15,000 purchase at last fall’s Canadian Yearling Sale and will be looking for a third straight victory from Post 7 next Sunday.

The top three finishers from each elimination return to Flamboro Downs next Sunday, July 22 for the second $130,000 Gold Final on the freshman trotting filly calendar. Post time for next Sunday’s program is 6 p.m.
