After scoring at 6-1 at the top class last week, Black Tie Bash delivered despite his outermost-post assignment to win as the 1-2 choice in the $10,500 Preferred Handicap Trot on Thursday night (July 14) at Rideau Carleton Raceway.
Black Tie Bash floated away seventh while Seeyou Men protected position at the pylons to a :28.1 first quarter and held control while slowing the tempo to a :58 half. At that point, driver Robert Shepherd sent Black Tie Bash after the leader and seized the helm before three-quarters in 1:26.1. The four-year-old Chapter Seven gelding then held firm on the point coming for home, keeping 2-1/4 lengths between him and Crossfit as he rallied from the pocket for second. Raising Rusty finished third and Beyond Kronos took fourth.
Robert Shepherd owns Black Tie Bash, who won his ninth race from 47 starts and pushed his bankroll to $99,918. Isabelle Darveau conditions the gelding who paid $3 to win.
