The trip was dreamy, and the end result was even dreamier for the connections of Good Sound Advice who pulled off a 12-1 upset in Thursday's $130,000 OSS Gold Series final for two-year-old trotting colts
and geldings at Kawartha Downs.
Reg Gassien treated the Bill James-trained son of Kadabra-Good As Your Word to a two-hole trip for most of the mile en route to the narrow triumph in 1:58.1.
Good Sound Advice led the group of nine past the quarter pole in :28.1 before releasing the track record-holding Prized Fighter to the position of command. That youngster chopped out middle splits of :58.3 and 1:28.1, but he self-destructed when put to heavy pressure by the first over Summer Indian. That colt opened up by 1-1/2 lengths at the top of the stretch, but he got picked off late by a pair of surging foes.
Good Sound Advice shook loose in the lane and used a :29.3 final frame to fend off a ferocious kick from Heres The Magic, who wound up falling short by three-quarters of a length. Summer Indian stayed on bravely to finish third.
W G James Stables Ltd, Peter Evans and Cody James share ownership on the rookie, who was purchased for a mere $7,000 from last year’s Harrisburg Yearling Sale. He has already stashed away $68,200 for his partners.
