Another ‘Mach’ Moment At St. John's

After capturing the Preferred Pace during the Canadian Drivers Showcase program on Sunday at St. John’s Racing & Entertainment Centre, Machthemoment returned to the Goulds, Newfoundland half-mile oval on Wednesday evening to notch back-to-back victories in that class

Machthemoment and trainer-driver Rod Forward got away third in the $640 feature from an outside Post 5 start and advanced to the lead after the :29.2 opening quarter. The popular chestnut gelding controlled the pace from there on out with fractions of 1:00.3 and 1:30.2 en route to victory in a season’s best 2:00.2 by one and a quarter length. The Usual Suspect (Wayne Williams) came on for second over the pocket-sitting Treasure Me Flurry (Shane Forward), who won the track’s first half-mile dash on Sunday’s program.

Jeanette Newell of Coleys Point South and Justin Newell of North Valley, NL share ownership of the winning Mach Three-Memorable Moments gelding, who has won four Preferreds this season and had yet to finish off the board in nine outings. The win was the six-year-old’s 24th of his career and bumped his earnings to $61,499.

Trainer Scott Forward sent out three winners during the seven-race program including Victors Passion (2:07.1) and Dusty Lane Zoe (2:04.4) with Shane Forward driving and Jerry Mcguire (2:01.2), which he drove himself.
