East End Erupts For Major Upset

A compact group of six faced the gate in Saturday’s $26,000 feature race at Woodbine Mohawk Park, and East End used his closing skills to step to a new lifetime mark while blowing up the tote board to the tune of 20-1.

East End got away last for driver Jonathan Drury, who watched Pedro Hanover throw down crazy fractions of :25.4, :53.1 and 1:20.4 before fading. Race favourite American Hustle was first over going to the half, and Drury worked out a second over trip for East End.

At the three-quarter pole East End was still sitting fifth, but he uncorked a :26.4 closing panel which propelled him to the lead. He got up to win by three-quarters of a length over Royal Renegade, with Go West Go Fast rounding out the Trifecta ticket.

Carmen Auciello trains the six-year-old son of Bettors Delight-London Eye for Percy Elkins of Milton, Ont. The gelding is now a four-time winner this season and a 17-time winner to date. The $13,000 payday bumped his bankroll to $278,332.
