Dexter Dunn, New Zealand’s premier reinsman, has offered comments in regard to the possibility of shipping overseas to race in the United States.

While in discussion with stuff.co.nz, Dunn explained that he will be spending the next few months steering horses in Ireland, Wales and Queensland.

Dunn also mentioned that he will spend some time vacationing in Europe, but he is not planning to pull up shop and make a move to the U.S. to drive Standardbreds full time.

The star pilot said that to just “go over there and try yourself out would be a very risky move.”

He went on to say that the U.S. racing scene “is a very hard place to break into and there's a lot of drivers over there and it's very competitive.”

The reinsman stated that support from a major stable would be a key aspect to any sort of a move. “Unless you're tied up with one of the biggest stables it would be pretty tough going."

Dunn is the reigning World Driving Champion, via his win in the 2015 WDC last March.
